Meet My Character Tour – take two

I did one of these a month or two ago too, actually, when I was invited by the lovely Angela Britnell to talk about Kaylee, the main character in Friends with Benefits. You can find that blog HERE.

This time, it was my friend, critique partner, and beta reader, USA Today bestselling author Jamie Lee Scott who invited me to play along. Last week, over on her blog, we met her character, Sergeant Wyatt Burke, from her new police procedural series set in the small town of Uncertain, California. She tagged me to answer questions next, so here goes!

1) What is the name of your character? Is he/she a fictional or a historic person?     Dirty Deeds BookCoverPreview prelim 2

My next release is Dirty Deeds, the ninth book in the Savannah Martin mystery series, so let’s just talk about Savannah, shall we? She’s fictional, contemporary, and might be a lot like I would have been, had I grown up in a different part of the world under different circumstances. As it is, we have very little in common.

2) When and where is the story set?

Current day – or more specifically late May/early June – in Nashville and in the small town of Sweetwater, Tennessee, about an hour south of Nashville, where Savannah grew up. (There’s a real Sweetwater, TN, as well, but that’s out near Knoxville, several hours east. My Sweetwater is fictional. It sits roughly where the village of Culleoka sits, a little southeast of Columbia, northeast of Pulaski, not too far west of Interstate 65. Cullee Oke means Sweet Water in whatever Native American dialect they used down there. Creek, maybe?)

3) What should we know about her?

She’s a recovering Southern Belle with a mother from hell, a boyfriend who grew up there, and a penchant for stumbling over dead bodies. She’s a real estate agent by trade, but she hardly ever sells any houses. That gets her into trouble in Dirty Deeds.

4) What is the goal of the character in Dirty Deeds?

Figure out who killed the prostitute in her bed. And make sure her current boyfriend doesn’t arrest her ex-boyfriend for the murder.

5) What is the personal goal of the character?

Convincing her mother that her boyfriend is worthy, so she can marry him. And hanging onto her pregnancy for another six months, since she’s had two miscarriages already.

6) Where can we read more about Dirty Deeds?

Funny you should ask. 🙂 You can find the blurb and excerpt here, along with links to preorder the book. It will be released on November 4th in print and digital formats.

7) Will Savannah ever sell a house?

Who knows? At the moment she’s thinking about some other career opportunities, since the real estate isn’t working out so well. And of course she’s hoping to become a mother soon, and that’s a full-time job in and of itself. But anything’s possible. 🙂
