My Main Character

The lovely Angela Britnell tagged me to be part of this main character chain-blog. You can see her offering HERE.

Without further ado, here’s my contribution:

1. What is the name of your character? Is he/she fictional or historical?Friends with benefits

Kaylee Carter is entirely fictional, and not based on anyone or anything. Just another 25-year-old breastaurant waitress serving beer and wings for a living.

2. When and where is the story set?

Not sure I specified, but for all intents and purposes, Chattanooga. Not for any particular reason, just because I needed to set it somewhere, Chattanooga is a nice small city, and I wanted somewhere not particularly known for anything in particular, like Nashville and the country music, for instance.  Somewhere that could have been anywhere, basically. For once, the setting has nothing to do with the story. Very unusual for one of my books, I admit. And it’s a contemporary romance, so it takes place now.

3. What should we know about her?

She starts out doing the wrong thing for the wrong reasons, and it takes her a while to redeem herself. But she does, eventually.

4. What is the main conflict? What messes up her life?

Kaylee sleeps with a guy she thinks is Prince Charming, only to get pregnant and to realize that not only is he not Prince Charming, he isn’t even who he told her he was. He’s also nowhere to be found. She ends up marrying her boring next door neighbor instead, for room, board, and health benefits, only to discover he’s the prince among men she should have been with all along.

5. What is the personal goal of the character?

In the beginning, to marry money and gain everything she’s never had before. By the end of the book, to be happy with Owen, with or without money. She just has to convince him she’s in it for the right reasons.

6. What is the title? Can we read more about it?

The title is Friends with Benefits. There’s more information and an excerpt HERE

7. When will the book be published?

It’s currently available on iBooks and Smashwords, since the fine folks at Apple talked me into giving them a two-week exclusive. It’ll be available everywhere else on August 1st. Introductory price, for a short time only, is 99 cents.

Following me in the Main Character game is Betty Bolte. You can find her blog HERE
